BNSF Railway announces four new Certified Sites
FORT WORTH, Texas – BNSF Railway Company announced today the Class I railroad has awarded its Certified Sites designation to four new locations.
Located in Everett, Washington; Spokane, Washington; Plymouth, Washington; and Springfield, Missouri, the sites feature acreage ready for industrial development. The Certified Sites program is a strategic initiative designed to meet growing demand for rail-served, customer site locations throughout BNSF’s network.
“We’re excited to announce these four new locations to our growing list of certified sites across BNSF’s vast network,” said Assistant Vice President of Economic Development Chris Danos. “These sites enable our customers to enhance their service offerings by leveraging the benefits of rail, while significantly reducing the time it would take to construct new facilities.”
To be eligible, sites must undergo a thorough analysis, which evaluates environmental and geotechnical standards, available utilities, site availability and both existing and proposed infrastructure. An industry expert reviews BNSF Certified Sites to ensure accurate, reliable data. The program aims to create a catalog of rail-served sites that are ready for immediate development.
The newly-designated Certified Sites:
- Smith Island Terminal: Everett, Washington – This 54-acre site is located north of Seattle, less than eight miles from the Port of Everett and two miles from Interstate 5. The site is zoned for heavy industrial use and includes an existing rail loop with direct access to BNSF’s main line.
- Spokane International Airport Rail-Truck Transload Center: Spokane, Washington – This expansive site, adjacent to Spokane International Airport and Fairchild Air Force Base, offers 305 acres zoned for light industrial use with room for expansion. - Plymouth Industrial Site: Plymouth, Washington – Spanning more than 1,300 acres, this site has excellent connectivity, including access to State Route 14, Interstate 82, and Interstate 84, providing access to five major ports within a four-hour drive. The site is zoned for heavy industrial use and features an existing loop track with access to BNSF’s main line.
